Jochen Sandig

was born in 1968 in Esslingen. In 1990 he started his studies of psychology and philosophy in Berlin. He participated at the foundation of Kunsthaus Tacheles and became its artistic director in 1990. In 1993 he founded, together with Sasha Waltz, the compagnie Sasha Waltz & Guests. In 1996 he founded the theatre sophiensæle in Berlin Mitte and took its artistic direction until 1999.

1999–2004 Jochen Sandig has been a member of the artistic direction of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz Berlin and he was also responsible for the dramaturgy of the dance ensemble. Since September 2004 he took the artistic direction of the compagnie Sasha Waltz & Guests. Founder of a new production and training centre for music, dance and the visual arts in Berlin called Radialsystem, that will be opened in September 2006.
