Johanna Richter

Johanna Richter is executive director of agbe e.V. Born in 1983 in Berlin, Johanna studied in Frankfurt/Oder and Paris, gaining a BA degree in cultural science and an MA in the Euro pean Masters in Children’s Rights Program at Free University, Berlin. Johanna founded a children and youth parliament, was a member of the federal pupils commission of Berlin, initiated con cepts as “ethics at school”, “certificates for teachers” and was the first pupil in German history making general changes of the school subject politics. From early on Johanna felt obligated to make an active contribution in social participation, especially for Africa. Besides teaching English and German in Togo, working in Ouagadougou at the German Embassy and producing a film on FGM, she founded the association agbe e.V. (www.agbe.org).

agbe supports associations in Africa ideally and financially. The construction of a nursery school in Togo began this year. In September, 130 children will have a safe environment for learning, playing as well as basic health care! Her concept to combatfe male genital mutilation in Africa received great recognition among the population of Burkina Faso.

Furthermore, many international organisations (such as UNICEF) decided to implement Johanna’s strategy as an innovative tool to fight this ritual. 2009 saw Johanna win the “Goldenes Bild der Frau” award for women committed to development aid in Germany. Full of energy, her aim is to make a difference to the world.
