Margarete Pratschke

born 1974, is research assistant at Hermann von Helmholtz Centre for Cultural Technology, Department “The Technical Image”, Humboldt University, Berlin. After her Master's in art history from Humboldt University in 2003 she had a lectureship at the Department of Art History on the history and theory of pictures and a grant for a project on “The History of Perspectival Machines” from the Getty Grant Program.

Since 2004 she has been a member of the research project on “Visual Strategies in Science and Technology” supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and has been editorial staff of the journal “Bildwelten des Wissens” at the Helmholtz Centre. She is currently writing a PhD thesis on “The Screen as Picture. The Pictorial History of Graphical User Interfaces”.
