Roby Stancel

orn in 1967, is Director of Products at Nanosolar in Palo Alto. He studied mechanical and aeronautical engineering at TU Munich and product design at Stanford University. For 12 years he was an employee with IDEO in California and Germany, where he has contributed in many different ways, from large corporate innovation programs, to full engineering development for start-ups.

He is the founder of IDEO GmbH in Munich, where he was managing director for 6 years before returning to the US in 2005. In 2007 he joined Nanosolar to help make its products as ground-breaking as Nanosolar’s 3rd generation solar cells themselves. Among other teaching engagements, he taught at the Product Design Program at Stanford University for two years.
