Dr. Karl-Heinz Strassemeyer
After his Diploma in Physics at University of Goettingen, he worked for three years as an assistant professor at the University of Karlsruhe and earned a PHD in Engineering. He joined IBM in 1967. He has been working in IBM most of his career for the Mainframe. Seven years of programming, ten years of hardware development, after that mainly driving system structures and strategy. His main achievements in this context were getting the Mainframes being implemented in CMOS and getting Linux running on the Mainframe.
His today's focus is on supporting and creating communities in the industry, which are aiming at collaborative solutions based on IBM technology like Power and Cell BE. While driving this, he always envisions concepts, which allow a close integration of these modern environments into the Mainframe. Intensive interaction with customers and customer organizations is a significant basis to get him inspired for his job. He was appointed a Distinguished Engineer in 1997 and was elected a member of the IBM Academy of Technology in 1998.
